Our £2.6 million Mossborough Drive development in Kirkby is now complete, transforming the site of the former Farmers Arms pub into 20 high-quality, energy-efficient cottage-style apartments for social rent.

Set within two L-shaped buildings arranged around a central courtyard, the development comprises four one-bedroom and 16 two-bedroom apartments over two floors. Each apartment has its own front door at street level and dedicated parking.

Located in the Tower Hill area of Kirkby, the homes – on Mossborough Drive and Moorfield – benefit from easy access to local amenities, green spaces and transport links to Liverpool.

This is our first new build scheme for social rent in Knowsley, representing another step forward in addressing the growing demand for affordable housing in the borough.

The first customers are expected to move into their new homes over the coming weeks.

We’re proud to have delivered our first social rent scheme in Knowsley. These homes are more than just bricks and mortar – they offer stability, affordability and opportunity for local people.

“Across the borough, and especially in communities like Kirkby, social rent plays a vital role in tackling inequality and driving regeneration. This development reflects our commitment to providing genuinely affordable homes and building vibrant, inclusive communities. We’ve transformed a long-vacant site into 20 beautiful new apartments that our customers can be proud to call home.

Yvonne Westhead-Fyles, Director of Development.

Each apartment is fully electric and fitted with an air source heat pump. The use of enhanced wall and roof insulation also improve overall energy efficiency.

The Mossborough Drive development was delivered in partnership with Liverpool-based contractor Built Group Ltd, with grant funding support from Homes England.

David Belcher, Director at Built Group Ltd, commented: “We’re delighted to hand over the Mossborough Drive scheme to Livv – our second partnership project together and Built Group’s fourth development in Knowsley.

“These new homes have been built with sustainability and quality at their core and will make a real and lasting impact on this area of Kirkby. As a local contractor, we’re proud to help deliver high-quality affordable housing where it’s needed most and invest in opportunities for local people – including support for 10 apprentices who gained hands-on work experience during this build, either with us or through our subcontractors.

“This project has been a fantastic example of the power of collaboration, and it’s been a pleasure working alongside Livv, Markhams and Level 2 Architects to bring this vision to life.”

To celebrate the completion of the scheme, we welcomed Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, as well partners from Knowsley Council and Homes England to the site.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “The Mossborough Drive development very much aligns with the priorities within the Council’s Housing Strategy and has regenerated a site that has been a blight on the area for a number of years. We welcome the addition of new quality affordable homes in the borough, particularly one and two-bedroom properties which are in short supply. This will help meet the demand in the local area and provide a wider choice for new and existing residents.”

As the Government’s housing and regeneration agency, increasing the supply of quality affordable homes remains one of our key objectives. We are committed to supporting stakeholders of all sizes to achieve their ambitions.

“The completion of Mossborough Drive marks a significant milestone and is a prime example of how we work collaboratively with partners like Livv Housing Group to achieve our mission of building much needed new communities that people can be proud of.

Shahi Islam, Director of Affordable Housing at Homes England.
